About Julie

Julie and boysWell, let’s see here…I am a homeschooling mother of two boys. Colin is 9 and in 4th grade. Eamon is almost 4. As homeschooling parents will surely understand, I have been “teaching” my boys since I brought them home from the hospital. Colin has never been to public school and neither have been in a daycare situation. I’m an eclectic homeschooler. I’ve used a little bit of everything, but never a complete boxed curriculum. I went to public school, so when I first started homeschooling, it was difficult for me to school without a strict schedule and desk involved. My methods have changed a lot since then. I’ve learned to relax and embrace any opportunity for learning. I am not, however, an unschooler. I lean toward classical schooling and the Charlotte Mason method. I try to use living books instead of text books whenever I can because we love to sit down and enjoy stories together on the couch. We take advantage of any chance to be outside and study this beautiful world we’ve been given. During the past school year, I used The Story of the World for History, Beautiful Feet Books (Geography Through Literature), Saxon Math, Rod and Staff Grammar, A Reason for Handwriting, Natural Speller, Apologia Exploring Creation with Botany and Apologia Exploring Creation with Zoology I …hopefully I didn’t forget anything.

I was born in Tifton, in southern Georgia, and lived in Berrien County until I was in Fifth Grade when we moved to northeast Georgia. I attended Toccoa Falls College for one year, then married my high school sweetheart, Mike, when I was 19. Since having our first child, I have always been a stay-at-home mom.

I enjoy sewing, cross-stitching, scrapbooking, photography, nature, hiking, tennis, bowling, reading, fishing, and watching football. If you want to know more, just ask me. Most of “me” revolves around being a wife, a mommy, and a teacher, so it’s sometimes hard to know what to say about myself not relating to others.
